I would Ride 400 miles

Listen in to our 10.30am interview tomorrow (Thursday 13th August) to hear about Chris & Nick Archibald.

Sadly, they lost their mother Hazel to Cancer last year, she was born and raised in Perth, Scotland and later moved to Telford, Shropshire. After losing her they wanted to do something in memory of her and also to raise funds to combat the terrible disease that she suffered and which unfortunately claims so many victims. As young boys, with most of their family in Perth they frequently made the journey North by car with their Mum so it seemed very fitting to include this journey in their fundraising, however this time they will make the journey by bicycle rather than by car.

Please make this journey worthwhile by donating anything you can to Cancer Research. You can do this via their website at iwouldride400miles.co.uk

T in the Park July 10-12 2009

Mike, Jenny and Linsey headed to T in the Park bright and early on Saturday morning (thanks must go out to Taylor's Taxis for the lift!) and walked to the Media Tent that we would be frequenting during the weekend.

After some nice time spent in the hospitality area we met up with Mike (of 'the morning' fame) and headed to go see Calvin Harris perform and then we saw Lady Gaga. Throughout the day we also saw Katy Perry, The Ting Tings, Jane's Addiction, Florence and the Machine and The Killers. And at some point we managed to get sun burned. Alas both Jenny and I look like pandas!

While hanging in the media tent during the afternoon Jenny interviewed George Kyle from Tenants, Geoff Ellis and Florence of Florence and the Machine as well as hanging with revellers out in the fields.

Come Sunday, Jenny and Linsey made their way back to T without Mike. We were both incredibly tired from the day before, but determined to make the most of our day. In the media village again we caught up with VV Brown and Alto Unite before heading out into the main area to see Gary Go, The Saturdays, Seasick Steve, The Script, Eagles of Death Metal, TV on the Radio,, Lily Allen, Pet Shop Boys and Snow Patrol. There was so much going on that we barely saw any full sets. Unfortunately we missed Blur. We were so tired we headed home early when we thought they wouldn't be playing. Typically though, once we left they did come on!

Check out the gallery to see some of our pictures. We took so many but didn't want to overfill the gallery with them! And we'll have two podcasts up with a weekend full of interviews for you to download and those will be up for a few days.

Perth Showcase - 1st July 2009

Perth FM was at perth racecourse yesterday broadcasting LIVE from the Perth Showcase event between 2pm and 4pm.

We were able to talk with many different people who were there as well as watch a few races on what was a lovely day in Perth. And even those who hadn't been before thought it was a great day out for all ages or levels of horse enthusiasts (that includes those who know nothing about horses!)

Perth Racecourse knows that not everyone going along knows a lot about horses, that's why they do their best to make it a great day out. This week there were stands with loads of local produce and lots of areas to grab a great bite to eat while basking in the son and watching each of the races.

On Sunday the 12th, coming up soon, is Family Fun Day where the kids can be easily distracted with events, fun and a bouncy castle!

Check out our gallery to see photos of Me Mark and the atmosphere at the Races. A podcast will also be up shortly featuring the event itself.

Perth Racecourse - Wednesday 1st july!

Me Mark Page is going to be hobbling along on his crutches to Perth Racecourse next Wednesday (1st July) to broadcast live from the Perth Showcase event. He'll be on hand interviewing a varied gaggle of guests and letting you know just what it's like to be at the races.

Of course, it would be much better to go along and see Mark for yourself, which we highly encourage. (He likes a big crowd!)

Don't know much about the Perth Showcase event or why YOU would enjoy a great day out? Well here's a little about it:

The new Perthshire Showcase meeting on Wednesday 1st and Thursday 2nd July will invite you to sample the local fayre and see the best produce that Perthshire has to offer. From locally made food and drink to jewellery and art, it will be a great opportunity to support and discover local talent. Come and enjoy one of the most picturesque Racecourses in the U.K and take in the sights and sounds of rural Perthshire.

This summer fixture is another great opportunity to enjoy the thrill of National Hunt racing in a superb parkland setting. Racing at it's best, with stalls selling a variety of racing memorabilia, pictures, clothing and other equestrian related products, you have an opportunity for some serious shopping.

Come and enjoy a relaxed afternoon's racing in the summer sun at Scone Palace Park, with friends, family or colleagues. Why not take a table in the glass fronted first floor Galileo Restaurant in the Nelson Stand with spectacular views overlooking the Racecourse. Call the Racecourse Office on 01738 551597 for more details.

Perth FM at the races: and they're off!

Methven Gala Day - 14th June 2009

On Sunday afternoon the Perth FM Roadshow with Ray Dallas headed to the Methven Gala Day. It was a fun day out for all the family there was a Mini Highland games, Pig Race, beat the goalie, and of course the football competition and congratulations to Cathy Select who won 10 - 7 against the junior team and man of the match was Kenneth Scott. There was also a display from Alyth Falconry and if you check out the picture section of the Perth FM website you will see a picture of Ray Dallas looking very scared holding a big bird. (Not often he holds one of them!) And we can't forget about the special appearance by Dr Luv himself otherwise known as Peter Hay from the Quiet Storm on Perth FM.

The weather wasn't the best as the heavens did open but that didn't dampen the sprits, as everyone just ran and hid in tents or gazebos until the rain went off.

Do check out the Gallery section of the Perth FM website as you never know you may just spot yourself, when our Basbo was out and about taking the pictures.

Thanks, to everyone who came along to the roadshow on Sunday, it was great to meet everyone, and I'm already looking forward to next years Methven Gala Day

St Johnstone signed shirt! - Tue 16 June

This morning saw a visit to the studio by Paul Smith (Sales and Marketting at McDiarmid Park) who brought with him a gorgeous framed signed away shirt!

Jenny and I spent the better part of half an hour trying to decypher the signatures on the shirt. Most seem pretty illegible but we've identified Paul Sheerin, Gary Irvine, Marin Hardie, Kevin Moon and, well, we've made up the rest... looks like Gary Bolan... Tommy Turner... and going by the scribbles: Attila Sekerlioglu and Gunni Torfason! (apparently I'm older that I look to remember some of those players...)

Check out the photos in the gallery section, but here's a preview. (And a chance to make Mike Arthur squirm as he's a Dunfermline supporter seen here 'forced' to put a saints scarf around his neck! To quote him 'At least it's not Falkirk...')

Stay tuned for more with St Johnstone over the summer as Perth FM will once more play host to the Super Saints lotto draw sometime in July.

Hollywood Nights

Song stuck in our heads, the Perth FM team attended the Hollywood Nights event at McDiarmid Park in aid of CLIC Sargent. The event had a fake casino lounge set up so we could play blackjack and roulette (and lose it all, darn) and then with a buffet in the Centenial Suite we had an auction and raffle.

Check out our gallery page for pictures from the event and shortly (keep checking!) there will be a podcast of interviews up from the night that will be on our homepage.

The event raised over 2000 pounds for CLIC Sargent and the team had a wonderful night out!

fair City Fitness Challenge!

On Saturday May 30th Perth FM went along to the High Street to support the efforts of those taking part in the Fair City Fitness Challenge. Linsey was there, microphone in hand to interview organisers and volunteers who were raising money for CHAS, the Children's Hospice Association of Scotland, and specifically the work they do at Rachel House in Kinross.

CHAS brought people in with buckets and the people of Perth gave generously as they watched the cyclists notch up the distance from Perth to Big Ben. They even managed to cycle so far they doubled back on themselves by about 50 miles or so!

Well done to those taking part, we hope a lot of money was raised.

Right now you can hear a podcast of interviews from the day when we reported between 2 and 3pm, during the final stretch of the event, and the gallery page has been updated with pictures from the day.

It was a busy, hot day in Perth on Saturday but that didn't deter the sweaty cyclists who hope to put on the event again next year, only bigger and better!

Me Mark Page... in the wars.

It seems that my Achilles heel is my Achilles heel.

Hi Me Mark Page here. So there I was playing football, 2 minutes to go, running for the ball, nobody near me and "crack!" I thought I'd been hit by a sniper but it was just my tendon snapping- that's all. So an operation and a few days in hospital later I'm back on the airwaves at Perth FM. So my radio resumes, but has my football career ended before it ever took off?

Here's a picture of my red leg.

Fair City Fitness!

The first Fair City Fitness Challenge is taking place on Saturday 30th May on Perth High Street and Perth FM will be there!

The event involves teams of up to 4 people cycling the distance from High Street to Big Ben in London on 2 top of the range stationary bikes. Teams will be allocated 1 hour and the total distance covered by the participants will go towards our overall target. The emphasis of the event is to have fun, get fit and raise money for a great cause!

Rachel House is Scotland's first children's hospice and they care for children and young people with life-limiting conditions and also support their families. The children's hospice is a home from home offering a place where families can relax, recharge their batteries and have fun with their children. Expert care is on hand to help them make the most of each day and live life to the full.

They are looking for teams of workmates/friends/gym buddies to come and take part in this great challenge and help reach a target of £2000. The challenge is suitable for all levels of fitness and for those who like a bit of competition, this is an opportunity to test your fitness against your friends and colleagues. For businesses taking part, the event will help improve team spirit and some light relief from the pressures of work.

Pete Wishart MP will launch the event and Perth FM will be there in the morning interviewing those involved and taking part.

Participation in the event will cost £100 per team and can be paid either on the day before taking part or through www.justgiving.com/faircitychallenge. Cheques should be made payable to CHAS

Check out http://www.stevenbonthrone.com and clock on the poster there for more information from the event organiser!

St Johnstone Bus our highlights!

Now up on youtube is a video edit of some Perth FM footage from the ST Johnstone open-top bus tour. Not bad for something filmed with a dinky camera!

St Johnstone Open Top Bus Tour

Last night (Tuesday 12th May) Perth FM were there, broadcasting from the bus, the route and from the council chambers as Perth celebrated St Johnstone's championship win this season.

Me Mark Page was in control of the PA system, as the Provost, Derek McInnes and Kevin Rutkiewicz were then able to address the crowd and thank them for their support. We were excited to be a part of an event as big as this and thank St Johnstone and PKC for their support.

Photos are now up on our gallery page and we are working on a video edit of the event which includes footage from the bus, as well as from the balcony of the Council Chambers and inside the civic reception. Look out for that in the next few days, we have a lot of footage to wade through!

Don't forget, this Saturday is the premiere of our St Johnstone special. One full hour of interviews with players, management and fans as we continue with our unwavering support of our home team! Tune into 106.6 at 1pm on Saturday to hear it. And if you miss it you can catch it again, Sunday at 6pm and Monday at 6pm.

Well done, Saints and we're all excited for next season in the SPL!

St Johnstone Promotion Special

Join Perth FM in congratulating our favourite football team winning the 1st Division Championship and promotion to the SPL for next season!

We'll be with the team as they parade through Perth on an open-top bus tour from 7.15pm on Tuesday 12th May as well as having eyes on the streets, mingling with the crowds. The tour will take in many streets on the way to Perth Concert Hall (which you can see by visiting the official St Johnstone website) where it will pick up the Provost and Lady Provost and head to 2 High Street with the help of Perth and District Pipe Band. Saints players will then display the trophy from the balcony to everyone gathered below.

We'll then be broadcasting live from the Council Chambers as Perth and Kinross Counil hold a civic reception in St Johnstone's honour.

It's been 7 years since the Saints were in the SPL, and Perth hasn't had a chance to show their support like this since Alex Totten took Saints up in the early 90s.

And don't forget to stay tuned later on in the week as we air a St Johnstone Special, with interviews from players, Derek McInnis and Geoff Brown. We may even play 'We are the Champions' as well!

Mark Page enters the blogosphere!

It never stops being painted and it's a job in perpetual motion- until now. Painting the Forth Bridge that is. Actually more specifically the Forth Rail Bridge. There's nothing more spectacular than heading down the M90 and driving across the accompanying road bridge and looking at this feat of Victorian engineering. Actually traveling across by rail means instead you look in awe at the road bridge. Anyway, no sooner do they get to one end with a paint brush, then it's time to start all over again. Just like my house with emulsion. That is until now. With the development of a 30 year paint, a coat of this then, well it's 30 years of bad news for painter and decorators isn't it? If anybody travels down from Perth to work on that, you've got 2 years to sort out a backup plan.

Great song we are playing at the moment is Shining Light by Annie Lennox. Sounds familiar? It did to me, but I couldn't place it, until I visited Everyhit.com; the answer to all my musical conundrums. Well it was originally a hit for Ash in 2001. So no wonder I was struggling- rock track to Annie ballad. Good though.

Alright some videos for you to look at on You Tube. Mini Me (Page Junior) is a dab hand at this. He has uploaded a class goal from ex- Saints player Alan Kernaghan, albeit in his Man City days before he joined St Johnstone. Put Kerny's name in to come up trumps. Actually Al is godfather to the other Page Junior- Fraser. Another real stoater is Forrest Gump in One Minute. Yep, the full story, all lived out in 60 seconds on an artificially turfed hockey pitch. The movie brings back bad memories for me. When I went to see it at the cinema I had my car nicked and never saw it again. The car that is, but I've watched the movie again several times since.
